Bluetooth is one of those things we don’t think about, until it suddenly stops working, device detected. Can’t connect headphones. The Bluetooth toggle is missing. Sound familiar?
Whether you’re trying to connect wireless earphones, a mouse, or transfer files from your phone, here's how to fix Bluetooth problems on your Windows laptop or desktop in minutes.
🔄 1. Restart Bluetooth the Right Way
Sometimes, a simple restart fixes it, but not just a normal one.
Try this:
Turn off Bluetooth from Settings or Action Center
Restart your PC
Turn Bluetooth back on
If the toggle is missing, skip to Fix #2.
🧰 2. Run the Bluetooth Troubleshooter
Windows has built-in tools that work (sometimes).
Steps:
Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
Find Bluetooth, and click Run
Let Windows detect and automatically fix minor driver or service issues.
🧩 3. Check if Bluetooth Is Even Available
Some desktops don’t have Bluetooth built in, and laptops may have it disabled.
Do this:
Press Win + X → Click Device Manager
Expand Bluetooth — if it’s missing entirely, your system might not have Bluetooth or the driver is corrupted
Check under Network Adapters for "Bluetooth Adapter" or "Wireless Controller"
💡 PCMIX Tip: If you don’t see anything Bluetooth-related, you might need a USB Bluetooth adapter — we can help you pick one that works out of the box.
🔁 4. Reinstall or Update Bluetooth Drivers
Corrupted or outdated drivers are a very common cause of Bluetooth not working.
Quick Fix:
Open Device Manager
Under Bluetooth, right-click on each device > Click Uninstall Device
Restart your PC
Windows will reinstall the correct drivers
If that doesn't help, go to your laptop/PC manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers manually.
⚙️ 5. Check Bluetooth Services in Windows
Behind the scenes, Bluetooth depends on certain Windows services.
Steps:
Press Win + R, type services.msc, hit Enter
Scroll to Bluetooth Support Service
Make sure it’s running and the Startup Type is set to Automatic
If it’s stopped, right-click > Start
This ensures Bluetooth functionality boots with your system.
📶 6. Interference or Range Problems
If Bluetooth is on but still not connecting:
Keep the device within 5-10 feet
Remove interference from Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, or USB 3.0 devices nearby
Disconnect other unnecessary paired devices — Bluetooth can get confused!
